BASF is currently building a new Verbund site in Zhanjiang, Guangdong province. Announced in July 2018 and officially commenced in November 2019, BASF Zhanjiang Verbund Site Project would be BASF’s largest investment with up to US$10 billion upon completion and would be operated under the sole responsibility of BASF. BASF Zhanjiang Verbund site would ultimately be the third-largest BASF site worldwide, and will be built into a role model for smart manufacturing and sustainable production by utilizing the latest digital technologies and applying the highest safety standards.

Main Tasks

- Consult projects teams, BIG plant operation teams and technology units (e.g. R&D) on material ion for specific applications and corrosion resistance for process plant components throughout the entire life cycle (from engineering, fabrication to operation) and determine corrosion data for metal materials to identify corrosion-resistant materials for specific applications.
- Develop material specifications for special materials, special services and special fabrication processes, e.g. phosgene service, large/heavy forgings, fiber reinforced plastics, glass-lining etc..
- Evaluate of possible damage mechanisms on basis of the plant operation parameters and develop risk-based inspection strategies incl. definition of in-service periods based on technical condition of plants, components, and flange connections.
- Provide holistic evaluation of technical condition of plants and its components in service to ensure integrity and tightness and support procuring replacement goods and define repair concepts and/or remedial measures (if necessary).
- Provide comprehensive failure case analysis incl. fractographical analysis considering construction, manufacturing, operation, material condition and load situation of chemical equipment/ components and flange connections.

- Bachelor’s degree in material science, materials engineering, corrosion engineering or equivalent. disciplines.Master’s degree will be an advantage.
- At least 3 years total work experience with minimum 1 years’ experience in chemical, petrochemical or refinery industry. International experience will be an advantage.
- Good knowledge and experience about materials (metal and non-metallic), their fabrication methods, analyzing methods, mechanical and corrosion properties, and failure case analysis.
- Good knowledge of Chinese and international engineering codes and standards (e.g. GB, AWS, ASME, ASTM, EN) and anti-corrosion and corrosion prevention standards such as ISO, NACE.
- Good knowledge of non-metal materials like fiber reinforced plastics (FRP), glass lined, plastics (HDPE, PP, PVC, fluoropolymers etc.), graphite and their fabrication methods and applications.
- Good communication skills to facilitate cross-discipline communication, to manage interfaces, to drive a continuous improvement process and to provide technical leadership to the team.
- Good skills of spoken & written technical English.
